Hello Everyone,

I just wrote Vaughan's Aptitude Test earlier this month and scored a 68%. I just started applying after my obtaining my pre-service last April and Vaughan was the 5th test that I've written.

My issue is this:
Although I have studied for each of these tests, I have chronically been scoring just under the passing mark. I am using a variety of firefighting prep books such as Firefighter Prep - Canadian Fire Fighting Exams, Barrons Firefighting Candidate Exams and even used Test Ready Pro. I am wondering if there is a book or study method that anyone can suggest to help me better prepare? I full believe I have the capabilities to be a Career Firefighter, just am having a hard time making it through this hurdle.

I appreciate any advice anyone has to offer!
What was the cut off for Vaughans Test. I have one friend who told me his child scored 79% and did not advance as the cut off was 85%. I have another friend whos child wrote the same test and scored a 68% and did not advance as the cut off was 71%. What was the cutoff%

In the response I got in my email the cutoff was 71%

I was wondering if anyone knew the next location for openings?

I applied to Barrie this year as well as Guelph, but I was informed from Barrie that I would require a OFAI certificate. Ive looked into this certificate and wanted to know If I could use this certificate anywhere or should I continue to apply to places where it is not essential to have.

Thx

You wasted your money if you applied to Barrie and Guelph and didn't have your OFAI. It clearly stated in both postings you needed the process to apply. As far as who's next look back in this thread at what viggles posted in the list. There may be more this year. Likely nothing big again until fall/winter.

Hey guys, new to the group and have a question regarding Timmins recruitment.

They don't have many details as to what qualifications they are looking for. (from what info I can find on the recruitment page)

Does anyone know what they require applicants to have?

Thanks

I know most of the guys on this thread are Ontario but for the BC boys Abbotsford will be running one this fall again.
We all go home

Heres my opinion on all the tests prep books. They are books that are designed to test your knowledge so you can highlight weaknesses and go back and study.

Yet most people think they can just study from the books and pass. Can you imagine going to Chapters and buying an AP Biology book and then walking into a college Biology exam without doing any of the coursework? No way. Yet people get the Fire test prep books and think they can wing it.

Simply use the books to highlight your weaknesses and then go study. If you are weak on math go get Grade 12 math books from the library and GED math books and work at it. If you are weak at Spatial orientation go to amazon and get the spatial books. And if you suck at English go to the library and get every TOEFL book you can find. Believe it or not all the english and comprehension questions in the fire tests come from TOEFL courses.

Also for english start reading lots of science, medical and fire books. When I last took a CPS test there were questions on Carbon Monoxide Poisoning and the Chemical content of smoke. I always read the questions before reading the paragraph and was able to answer the question without having to look at the paragraph. This greatly speeds up how fast you can do the test.
