Toronto Fire Squad Truck

Postby rescue1cal » Sun Nov 27, 2011 2:16 pm

I have a couple of questions about the Squad trucks in Toronto that hopefully someone could answer for me.
1. What calls do they respond to and what is their role on scene?
2. What equipment do they carry?
3. How many runs do they go on?
4. How many firefighters does it carry? Does each have a captain?
5. What special training do the firefighters on a squad have?

Thanks in advance guys!

We have 5 squads,
runs last year
Squad 313 2308
Squad 331 1683

Squad 232 1565
Squad 445 1248

The rigs respond to trench rescues, auto ex. confined space, auto ex., high angle rescue, elevator rescue, multiple alarm fires etc.
Generally staffed with a crew of 4 including the captain.
Squads do specialized training at our special operations training facility.

Thank you. Just one more thing, what is a squads role at a working fire?

Equipment on TO Squads

Postby thisonegoesto11 » Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:51 am

To anyone that may know,

What kind of trucks do the squads run? What equipment is on-board? In Cowtown, we have two trucks for the Heavy Rescue Team - the Heavy Rescue and the Support vehicle. The Rescue is a new SVI dual axle, "stairway to Heaven" type Rescue and carries all the hydraulics, rope gear, confined space equipment, torches, air bags, cameras, listening equipment (for structural collapse) as well as other assorted tools and trash pumps. The Support is an International crew cab and has the trench boards, air shores, hand tools and wood for building shoring.

If we get a Heavy Rescue call - the majority are the "car into building" calls - we'll dispatch the Heavy Rescue, the Support vehicle, and Engine 25 to provide us with enough trained manpower to get the job done. Will more than one TO squad get sent to calls?

Toronto will dispatch as many squads as needed at a call to get the job done.

Insert joke about 16 truck kitchen fires? Ahhh, that was in bad taste.

Likely Smeal as they have made mostly all of their newer ones, aside from their E-one Brontos.
