Nice. Heard this was coming. FYI - their last two recruitment's were also run by FireHire. While they are very efficient, I agree walking away without specifics is tough

Hi all,

I am a firefighter over here in Ireland, just wondering can anyone point me in the right direction for information regarding applying for a firefighter job in Canada? Do i need to be a citizen first? or do i need to live in Canada before i can apply...

Any info would be great

Typically all departments require that you are legally allowed to work in Canada. The process of going through that someone else will have to help you with.

Hi Under Air,

As someone who came from somewhere else to work here, I can tell you for certain that you either have to be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident. You could apply with an open work permit, but the problem is they have an expiry date, which means a Fire department wouldn't take a chance on you and train you only to have your work permit revoked or not renewed when it expires. It's a problem.
Usually the work permit acceptable to Fire departments is the one granted to people who have been granted asylum by the refugee board.
Best advice I can give you is pick up the phone and speak to human resources of the Fire departments you would like to work for and they will point you in the right direction.
Usually that will be Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Good luck. Go Canada.
