talked to hr today, they used 8 positions on their previous list, and it will continue to be active until december. being number 13 of course means i am still 5 names out and thus the closest i have ever gotten but its not looking hopeful for me getting a spot unless i apply again. they also stated no date for a written test has been scheduled as of yet.

Would it not make sense to use all the list before hiring again? You were obviously good enough to be on the list before...

I only ask because I'm fairly new to all this and you'd think using up the list would be the common sense thing to do....

It would completely make sense, but making sense and fire recruitment don't exactly go hand in hand.

the reasoning is that two years is an awful long time for someone to; get out of shape, forget all their skills if they're not continuously using them, get hired somewhere else, go to jail, become an axe murderer...you get my point. plus, as you move further and further down the list, you're reaching less and less desirable candidates...

got to cut the list off at some point and get a fresh batch of candidates. Grieve2, now you've got the advantage of them already knowing your name, and seeing your face. just ace the test again and im sure you stand an even better chance than you did last time at getting it.

I am booked for the 28th, first time doing the York test, have been a part time FF for 4 years, 36 years old, anything I should prep myself for? I did similar tests in the past to get on, however first time doing the VO2.

Thoughts?

if you have not prepped for the Vo2 max yet, its too late. you can be out of shape and still pass it, it just sucks a whole lot more. test is typically 15-20 mins of running with the treadmill getting steeper and faster each work load until you feel like you are going to die, then they put you through one more work load. the rest of the day is a breeze.
the easiest way to increase your Vo2 max is to loose weight, run stairs, incline and interval training.
