So is it suggesting that I need the following to apply.....Specialized rescue training, to include Auto Extrication, Water/Ice Rescue, Hazardous Materials and Advanced Rope Technician?

Yes. As I read it, its not a suggestion, its a requirement. 4 technical qualifications, plus your standard NFPA 1001 plus "higher level EMS training an assett". Seems like they dont want to hire newbies.

My question would be, if basic EMS training is PCP then higher level EMS must mean ACP. So they are after Advanced care paramedics? I wonder what their plan is? Taking over Whitby area EMS?

My interpretation is that they would ideally like you to have one or more specialized training courses. Not necessarily all of them.

In regards to the medical, I see the bare minimum is Standard First Aid & CPR. Would think 'higher level' EMS training could be anything.. first responder, EMR, PCP, ACP.

Either way, hopefully someone with ties to Whitby might be able to shed some light.

Just my two cents!

Any ideas on what written test Whitby uses? Is it just CPS or do they do an actual fire test?

Also I agree higher level EMS training in my interpretation would be higher then standard first aid. I can't see Durham Region EMS being taken over anytime soon.

Whitby generally looks at career and experienced volunteer firefighters.... I believe the last round of applicants selected for the general knowledge exam a couple yrs ago were in one of the two categories...

Can anyone to speak to whether or not an email application is acceptable? Applied via email, however the return email was more of an information letter than a confirmation of receipt.

Cheers!
