All I know is they're having an information session:

"We are hosting 3 recruitment information sessions at the EFRS Training Academy on Saturday, February 1, 2020 in preparation for the upcoming application period in March.

Please only RSVP to one session below as seats are very limited. If you have attended a previous session before, please allow others their chance to participate. Content and information does not change.

9am-10am: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/87480609859

11am-12pm: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/87485029077

1pm-2pm: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/87485350037

Have your questions answered and see if you have what it takes to join our team"

Interesting that they're doing recruitment seminars when they still haven't sorted out whether or not they're hiring from the previous year. Just checked and still no email and I keep hearing the words "small class" and "hiring freeze" thrown around.

I'm hearing from several people... "Class of 16-24 sometime in the summer"

Also, if you email HR you will get a generic response email, and it says in bold... "2020 Eligibility list will be emailed out in January"

So hold tight everyone, not too many days left on January hah

Thanks for the info and checking with HR! That's way more than what I've heard. A friend who works with EFRS said the following about the budget cuts:

"No hasn’t affected me directly but I know it has reduced the expansion they wanted to do in 2021 of 25 new positions in addition to annual attrition to at least 2023"

In English, is it's reducing the planned expansion for the next couple of years.

I spoke with the HR representative in person at EFRS open house yesterday. All she could say is that they're waiting on the city still. They don't want to give false hope to people and then have the hiring cut last minute. She did say an email update should be coming out soon, but it might not necessarily be the Eligibility List.

interesting updates, they have never had a prob giving false hope before but maybe things have changed. I thought the e-list being so late might have affected recruiting for this year but looks like it is going ahead March 1.

Yes it looks like they’re going ahead with 2020 recruitment. My concern is are they just erasing the 80 2019 hopefuls?

Based on my conversation with the HR representative (probably one of the better sources of info I've talked to), the answer is no. Just more waiting.

So if they don't have a class in 2020...do the names on the list (if one ever comes) get carried forward to 2021 hiring??
Seems unlikely as they are having a 2020 application...
