Hello All,

Did you find that having experience as a volunteer firefighter with a department helped you get hired as a full-time firefighter? I've recently been offered a volunteer position which would have me moving to pursue the opportunity, any suggestions on whether this experience will improve my skill-set to be hired as a full-time firefighter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

It definately doesnt hurt at all. Most depts expect that if a vollie, that you have put your practical knowledge from a school and now apply it to real life scenarios.

Than again, one question that pops up alot lately in interviews is " what are you involved in your community, besides being a volunteer FF?"

They want to ensure you are involved ie volunteering somewhere for a while. And being a vollie FF isnt accredited in that question.
