Firefighter
Full-time, Permanent; Poster #2015-23

REPORTS TO: Fire Lieutenant
BAND: 1 (Included in the Firefighter Bargaining Unit)
SALARY: $36.84 to $40.87 per hour (42 hours per week)
POSTING DATE: March 4, 2015 (Internal/External)
CLOSING DATE: March 14, 2015 or until a suitable candidate is found


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Fire Lieutenant, the Firefighter is accountable for fire suppression and rescue duties necessary to save life and property at Edmonton Airports. This includes providing emergency medical response and aid, inspections and education for safety prevention programs. Within appropriate guidelines, policies and standards, the Firefighter will respond to and perform tasks at emergency and non-emergency scenes to minimize risk to Edmonton Airports, including social and economic costs. The Firefighter is also responsible for duties under the Incident Command system at emergency incidents and other duties as required.

POSITION SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Provide emergency response to all aircraft incidents and accidents and is responsible for documentation of such.
• Perform structural fire-fighting activities both on airport property and off-site under existing contracts with EA stake holders.
• Provide Emergency Response Services in accordance with regulatory standards and best practices for Edmonton Airports Airfield Operations, Aviation Safety, Emergency Response Planning, and Emergency Response Services.
• Develop, implement, and review processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensure mitigation of risks.
• Respond to medical emergencies as outlined in the Medical Protocols and participating in the quality management review process of responses.
• Conduct regular inspections and maintain various equipment and apparatuses (trucks, gear, hydrants, extinguishers, AEDs, etc.) to ensure response readiness at all times.
• Ensure continuous upgrading of skills and knowledge in order to act as Fire Lieutenant after acquiring 4 years of firefighting experience.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Structural Firefighting NFPA 1001- Levels 1 & 2 (or equivalent), Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) - ACP registered (EMT considered an asset), Dangerous Goods Responder NFPA 472, NFPA 1041 - E1, E2 would be considered an asset
• Canadian Aviation Regulations 323 – (Previous training Considered an Asset)
• Must possess a class 3 drivers licence with air brake endorsement and be able to obtain an Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP)
• IAPD or defensive driving equivalent
• Incident Command ICS 100 & ICS 200, (Blue Card and/or Fire Attack would be considered an asset)


• Selected candidates will be required to participate in a written examination measuring interpersonal and judgment skills; testing is scheduled to take place on March 17, 2015 from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
• Successful completion of medical and physical task evaluations will be required
• Must secure and maintain appropriate airport security clearance and acceptable criminal record check as conditions of employment

Any word on when applicants will be notified whether they are writing the aptitude test?
