OAFI

Postby Barbz519 » Tue Jul 07, 2020 8:14 pm

Anyone else blown away by the e-mail from OFAI?

“Many questions have been emailed regarding the extension of candidate certificates. The OFAI will not be extending any certificates. It will be up to individual municipal fire services to grant leniency on expiration dates, in which the OFAI has recommended”

This is not ok

Not trying to cause a argument here and I get the frustration on a applicants view.

I’ll say this first, OFAI is a joke and everyone knows that. Multiple departments under the OFAI body are planning on leaving it soon due to the lack of consistency and it’s product.

But they’re a business and it’s really up to the department if they want to give an extension on certificates. Even if you’re give a 3 month extension on certs the majority of departments (not all) won’t be hiring until end of year and ending the recruitment in the early months of 2021 which means you’d have to recert anyways.

Not wanting to upset anyone with this but I don’t know why you’d expect an extension ?

I think because they were closed and we aren’t able to re-cert. It’s hard enough to book certs and now they’ve just created a massive storm of people trying to book.

Idk if anyone else is having an issue but the month of August is not loading with slots to book... Only July 18-19 & 25-26.

I don’t think it opens up until 0900.

They’ve only released July dates. I think they are waiting to see how this goes and slowly releasing more dates. It’s going to be a mess for the rest of the year

Will be interesting to see what even happens most departments should validate all certs from the beginning of the year seeing as October everything will most likely be shut down. And what departments are even going to be posting. They should of all been posted already. Feel like everything is waiting till next year

This is my opinion, people who have been consistent with there certifications for say 3 years have spent ALOT of money keeping them up to date. If your unlucky enough to have got in to get certified 3 months ago before covid hit your certificate is either half expired or 1/4 expired. That being said out of good faith they should have some sort of plan to help people in that situation or worse if your certificates are expired and you can’t get in for re cert for a month. End of the day we need them to get a job, they hold all the cards and whatever they say or do we have to adhere too.

I wonder if they’ll make us share facepieces for the VO2 max scores that don’t count for anything
